When documentary maker Rita Attwood discovers a cassette with a 60-year-old, unheard recording on it, she sets out to help John Court, her step-dad, on a journey of self-discovery. Adopted at birth, John is the son of a US Marine and a wahine Māori, who fell in love in World War II - and John never met his father or heard his voice. Will the cassette even play? What message did John’s father want to communicate with him? What if Rita is opening a Pandora’s box that was supposed to stay shut?

See more in a trailer video for The Sound Of My Father here

Go to this episode on rnz.co.nz for more details
