Episode 40 – Pressure or Pleasure

MAR 5, 201054 MIN

Description

In this podcast we talked about knitting competitions and KALs such as the Ravelympics. What’s the deal with those things anyway? Why would you compete or join a group of knitters working on the same projects? Do you find pleasure in these activities, or is it just too much pressure? We’ll discuss some pros and cons of both!

But first, what’s on our needles?

Still wondering what we’re talking about? Check out Kate’s projects on Ravelry!

Did you catch that funny segway? :)

In the second segment we get down to the good stuff! We’re talking about the types of knitting competitions & KALs (which means knit-along for the newbies out there). We talk about why and why not jump on the bandwagon!

Do it for the challenge

  • Knit a sweater in 17 days
  • Knit your first sweater

Enter to learn new techniques

  • Fair isle
  • Beads
  • Lace

Enter to finish all your WIPs

  • For the prizes
  • For the success
  • For the mystery

Why not enter?

  • Don’t want the pressure
  • Requires steadfast, monogamous knitting
  • Can take away the joy of knitting
  • Not motivated by prizes or glory
  • Don’t want others restricting your knitting
  • Mystery schmystery
  • Can’t make the time to focus

In the last segment we always give a shout to the Lord with “Knitting from the Word”. Tammy gave a devotion from 1 Corinthians 10:13 and Philippians 4:13. Kate closed with a prayer for the many health-related concerns of our listeners and friends, peace, strength, and wisdom and gave God the glory for the podcast!
