The most dangerous lie we believe about faith is that God will only call us to what feels safe. We open with a blunt statement that cuts through comfortable religion: the cross was not comfortable, so why do we expect our calling to be? From the start, we push past the feel-good version of Christianity and get honest about what it means to follow a crucified Savior when obedience stretches our nerves, our schedule, and our pride.
We walk through key Bible passages that frame true Christian discipleship, including Luke 9:23 on taking up the cross daily and Romans 12:1 on becoming a living sacrifice. Along the way, we talk about the difference between wanting blessings and accepting responsibility, and why “Lord, use me” can’t be separated from surrender. We also point to Scripture’s real people, Moses, Jeremiah, Esther, and the disciples, as proof that feeling unqualified is often the exact space where God teaches us dependence.
Then we deal with the cost: forgiveness when it feels unfair, truth when silence is easier, and living differently when the world pushes back. But we do not leave you in heaviness. We anchor everything in God’s presence and promise, including Matthew 28:20 and the reminder that grace is sufficient and strength is made perfect in weakness. If you’re facing a hard assignment or a scary next step, this message is for you.
