This is our “nerd bar fight” segment where we toss two iconic characters into the same arena and argue it out like it’s the most important court case in gaming history. The difference in 2025? It’s more curated, more cinematic, and we’re bringing in a KVGT-trained AI to help generate tighter matchups, add flavorful fight breakdowns, and serve as a tiebreaker when the table inevitably deadlocks. Same chaos, better scaffolding.

Samus Aran vs. Doom Slayer @ Midgar (Final Fantasy 7)

Samus Aran isn’t just a bounty hunter, she’s a one-person tactical strike team in a power suit. She fights like a scientist with a cannon: patient, methodical, and always gathering information before committing. With long-range firepower, mobility tricks, and the kind of adaptability that comes from surviving hostile alien worlds on the regular, Samus thrives when she can control space, use cover intelligently, and force her opponent to play her game.

The Doom Slayer is the exact opposite kind of nightmare. He’s pure forward pressure, a walking apocalypse with a toolkit designed to keep momentum never-ending. He doesn’t “engage,” he arrives like a violent weather system, chaining weapons and movement with relentless purpose. The longer he stays close, the worse your life gets. In a battlefield like Midgar’s wreckage, the question becomes brutally simple: can Samus keep the fight at her preferred distance long enough to dismantle him, or does the Slayer close the gap and turn Sector 7 into a one-person horror show?

Who do you think wins: Samus or the Doom Slayer? Drop a comment and make your case. Is It Truly A Revival? (Episode 205)
NOV 14, 2025
Is It Truly A Revival? (Episode 205)

You heard it right! KVGT Podcast is BACK!

But that’s not all! This revival is a true flashback to early KVGT circa 2010 with all four original hosts!

That’s right, Jeremy and Patrick are once again going to be joined by OG Hosts Frank and Kevin!

And there’s more. Oh, OH so much more!

Is This For Real?

Yes, the boys of KVGT are back. But before you get TOO excited, there are a few things you should know.

First and foremost, we’re coming back as a monthly podcast. Right now, that is every 4 weeks. This may change in the future once we get back up and running. We’re all pretty excited for the revival, but we also all have work and families and *shutters* responsibilities now.

But, if I’m being honest, the plan is bi-weekly, that is every other week.

Is The Show Staying The Same?

Nope! We’re growing, expanding, and bringing KVGT into the 2020s.

You’ll have to listen to the episode for all the details, but here are a few bullet points to give you an idea of what to expect:

Minor change, but we are rebranding from Knights of the Video Game Table Podcast to KVGT Podcast. Logistically, nothing really changes here since we already use KVGT Podcast in many places. This is because…

The podcast topics are expanding from fully video game focused! All of us still love video games and play them regularly, but we also have other interests in movies, tv, reading, tech, and who knows what else and we want the podcast to reflect that. BUT DON’T WORRY! Video games are still going to be a main topic for the show.

We’re actually putting a small budget into production, meaning we’ll have cleaner, better sounding episodes and social media posts.

The website is…still in flux. While the work on KVGT 3.0 is done, we’re not really sure where we are going from here. The podcast will ALWAYS live here, but we may end up using the site for more than just that. This isn’t some sort of vauge teaser, we really have no plans, but the idea of doing more has come up.

Speaking Of The Website…

Yeah, our website was trash for many years. Even when we were active in the late 2010s, the site barely functioned, and navigating around was a nightmare.

So I spent a week cleaning up categories (we had 30), tags (we had over 3000. WHAT?), and posts.

We actually have a decent backlog of interesting posts, but they were so far buried unless you happened to visit the website within the first few weeks of us posting that you wouldn’t even know they existed.

But the site isn’t quite done yet. The new blog hub (called Side Quests) is still just a list of everything we’ve posted, without cohesive excerpts or images, all current episodes are poorly formatted, and there are still around 100 episodes of the podcast that are misnamed, and our about page is…sad.

This is all part of the next update I’ll do in the coming weeks, you can call it 3.1 if you’re one of those types of people who love numbers.

So, This Is Real, Then.

It is.

And we’re looking forward to bringing you a new version of KVGT, I think a version we’ve all wanted since the beginning. More variety, more laid back, more of us.

Thanks for joining us once again, and we can’t wait to hear from you after you’ve listened to the first episode!
