Kathina Updates

OCT 11, 2025-1 MIN

Description

For those planning to attend our Kathina festival on Sunday, 19 October 2025, please note the following important information:

Arrival

St. Margaret’s Lane is likely to be congested, and it takes some time to walk from the parking place in the field to the temple, also if you have have food/dana times to offer, you need to go to the drop off point first (see below), so we encourage you to come early (i.e. before 9:45) for an easy and untroubled arrival, with plenty of time to participate in the Paritta Chanting, beginning at 10:30.

Dana/Offering Drop-off & Parking

At the monastery gate, you will be asked if you have any food or dana items to drop off. If yes, you will be directed to continue driving to the kitchen gate where the food and dana drop off tent is located. There will be volunteers there to help you to unload your offerings.

Please note that there are no facilities to cook or warm up the food or to wash the food containers that you bring. If you wish to find your containers easily afterwards, please clearly mark them with the labels prior to arriving at Amaravati, then please take them home for washing. We also request that you take home any leftover food at the end of meal time.

After dropping off your offerings, you will then be directed to the main field for parking.

Main Entrance – volunteers will meet and direct you from here.

Kitchen gate – for food and dana drop off; volunteers will meet and instruct you from here.

Parking

St. Margarets is a residential area, and we would like to maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere on the public road, out of consideration for our neighbours. We appreciate your support in this endeavour. Please do not park along the verges of St. Margarets Lane, only park within the monastery grounds.

Parking for this event will be in the main field. – Volunteers will be on hand to guide you. All visitors will be ushered from their cars down the walkway between the abbot’s kuti and the Retreat Centre to the main ceremonial area.

Designated parking spaces are available for visitors with official Disabled Parking badges. Please inform the volunteers at the main gate if you require one of these spaces.

Field Parking – volunteers will direct you

This map may help orient you to the set up for the day. This will be the first year that our new sala is available both for eating and for viewing the Kathina ceremony in the afternoon. Events from the Temple will be live streamed there, with a recording being made available afterwards on the Internet. Food tables will be set up in the cloister area.
