Ray in Niagara Falls, New York asked: I need more information on that Tablo that they're advertising on TV. They give you the information they want you to have. I need to know if I can use this to block commercials. Commercials are longer than the programs if you time them. 
 
Ray, Tablo used to offer a premium service first introduced in 2019 that automatically skipped commercials. 
 
That service was discontinued in 2022 as the premium subscription never grew as much as the company anticipated and they couldnt cover the costs of providing the service without that growth in subscriptions. 
 
Tablo does not require a subscription, one is offered that provides a 2 week program guide and improved options like the ability to record a whole series rather than an episode. That subscription costs $5/month, but again, it does not include the commercial skipping functionality. 
 
Channels DVR can still skip commercials, but youre looking at having to set up a Raspberry Pi or similar computer to act as the server, which is not the same experience as buying a polished plug and play device. 
 
Unfortunately, since 2022, your choices to skip commercials on over the air TV got worse.

Chris, they’re not really the same category of device, so it kind of comes down to what you’re looking for. 
 
 
 
iPads are simpler to use, simpler to keep updated and overall secure, but they’re more limited. They sit somewhere between a phone and a laptop in functionality. 
 
 
 
The Microsoft tablets are just Windows laptops in a different form factor. You’ll have to deal with the normal updates, and the latest batches of ads and invasive features that Microsoft seems determined to cram into Windows, you’ll need to worry about malware scanners, but they’re more versatile and can run the same software any other computer can. 
 
 
 
It’s ultimately down to what you need to do with the device. If you need specific software for work or anything like that, your choice may be made by that restriction alone.

Don, this stuff always comes down to what you need more than anything else. 
 
 
 
If you’re really asking for the most cost effective and useful technology that cops use in general the answer would probably be something like “boots”, or “email”, or for electronics something boring like their radios, or we would imagine that speed guns and speed cameras pay for themselves pretty quickly. 
 
 
 
Drones are so cheap and easy to fly that they’re likely to make the list these days, they’re basically a cheap helicopter replacement that you can fly right up to a window if you want to. 
 
 
 
Least useful or worth it is probably a much longer list, there have been a lot of complaints lately that the famous Shotspotter is a failure in real world environments, and that MRAP that your local police department bought from DoD for an ungodly amount of money is probably useless unless someone happened to mine your streets recently. 
 
 
 
There’s a police department in California that bought a Cybertruck, which is a questionable enough purchase in general with all the problems they seem to be having, but they even bought it only as an engagement tool not meaning to actually drive it outside of events,

Billy in Simpsonville, South Carolina asked: "Apple is supposed to release their Ai with the Apple 16, but it's available in the stores now without the Ai. They were the originators of this whole thing. When are they gonna do this? Are they ever gonna do it or are they just too far behind now?" 
 
Billy, Apple announced some time before the iOS 18 release that Apple Intelligence would be coming out later in the year as part of the 18.1 version. 
 
There is no official firm date for the release, but unofficially sources have said that it's likely to come out on October 28th. 
 
If you're not upgrading to the iPhone 16 keep in mind that Ai is intensive and has hardware requirements and only a few of the older models will fully support it. Unless you have an iPhone 16 or an iPhone 15 Pro model, you wont be able to benefit from the new features. 
 
Outside of iPhones, if you have an M1 or newer MacBook or iPad, you will have access to Apple Intelligence when its released.

Mike asked: "My wife has locked herself out of her iPhone. We can't remember the password she used. Is there any way to unlock that phone?" 
 
Mike, if your wife remembers her Apple ID username and password, you should be able to unlock it using those. 
 
Unfortunately, the password is obviously meant to keep people who dont know it out, so theres no real easy way to get around that, otherwise what would be the point of it? 
 
If her phone is not set up using a Apple ID, you may be able to wipe it by putting it into recovery mode. You will need a computer, but this is a legitimate Apple recommendation. 
 
You can actually find their own instructions on their website, which is good because they differ by device and it involves holding down the right buttons for the right amount of time in the right order. 
 
Apples articles url is not very audio friendly, its https://support.apple.com/en-us/118430, but we will list it on this weeks show page. 
 
If the phone is protected by the Apple ID, you will have to enter it even if you do apply this method.
