 two versions of a gamelan piece by I Wayan Sadra

Two version of a piece by the experimental Indonnesian composer I Wayan Sadra, who passed away earlier this year. "Buko Semarangan" was recently recorded, while "Buka," part of a dance accompaniment, was composed and recorded in 1989, and included on  "New Music Indonesia Vol.3" a series on Lyrichord Discs.

Gamelan Pacifica and a Chinese virtuoso make beautiful music together.

Gendhing Erhu, by Jarrad Powell, combines the carefully crafted tuning of Seattle's Gamelan Pacifica with a Chinese erhu played by virtuoso Warren Chang. This is one of 6 tracks on a recent re-issue of Pacifica's first CD, Trance Gong. The CD is availalbe from the American Gamelan Institute at www.gamelan.org, and also from CDbaby.com.

Composers Rahayu Supanggah and Sinta Wullur take different approaches to combining gamelan with string instruments.

A viola is invited to play with gamelan instruments in Rahayu Supanggah's "Duet." [From the CD "Homage to Tradition, available at AGI and CDbaby.] Sinta Wullur's "Baliade" combines a string quartet with a diatonic gamelan.
