A study at Vanderbilt University showed that within just one week of quitting smoking, HDL levels increased by seven points. <br /><br />Avoid refined carbohydrates -- sugar, flour, white rice and milled corn. Foods that cause a spike in blood sugar drop your HDL cholesterol.
