Black British Actors Landing More American Roles

901 Voices & Votes Podcast – Season 3, Episode 13 “Black British Actors Landing More American Roles” In this episode, Kelly Price and Jett Lucas discuss the growing debate over Black British and other overseas actors landing more roles portraying Black Americans in Hollywood. The conversation was sparked by comments from Haitian-American actor Da’Vinchi, who appears in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, after he suggested that cost, focus, and perceptions about work ethic can influence why studios cast international actors over Black American performers. Kelly and Jett break down the controversy and ask whether the issue is really about talent and work ethic—or whether Hollywood economics, limited opportunities, casting practices, and competition within the Black diaspora play a much bigger role.
