Send us Fan Mail Why do leaders start checking everyone's work under pressure?  I'm Sahar Andrade, MB.BCh, Neuroleadership Coach and Forbes Coaches Council member.  My read is that checking can become a way of closing an open question when a leader is carrying too much.  No study shows that overloaded leaders check their teams more.  The research gives pieces of the picture: a 2009 review in Nature Reviews Neuroscience reports that even mild uncontrollable stress can weaken prefrontal abilities, and in one small 2015 experiment in PLOS ONE, people with loaded minds trusted less.  The step from those findings to a leader's desk is my interpretation as a coach.
