Description
AI doesn't need your face to identify you anymore.
It can recognise your voice. Your fingerprints. And potentially even the way you move.
Simon Weckert is a Berlin-based new media artist whose work combines code, circuits and social commentary. He has become known for playful projects that expose the strange ways technology shapes our lives, including his infamous Google Maps experiment and a colourful T-shirt designed to confuse AI surveillance systems.
Simon explains how he created the digital camouflage, why AI surveillance worries him, and whether we should have the right to disappear from these systems in the first place.
We get into the uncomfortable question of freedom vs safety, whether surveillance technology could reduce human civic engagement, and why being able to opt out of tracking online doesn't necessarily mean you can opt out in the real world.
Plus: can AI make better art than humans?
If AI can recognise you without your face, is there anywhere left to hide?
