The Winning Mindset: Winning the Battle Against Negative Thinking
Sometimes the greatest competition against winning isn’t another person, your circumstances, or even your ability. Sometimes, the greatest competition is the conversation happening inside your own mind. In this episode of All I Want To Do Is Win, Derrick Gilbert explores how negative thinking can quietly shape what we believe, influence what we attempt, and ultimately affect the results we produce. The core idea is simple but powerful: Your thoughts determine your actions, and your actions determine your outcomes. A Winning Mindset isn’t about ignoring reality or pretending challenges don’t exist. It’s about confronting reality without allowing negative thoughts to become the unquestioned narrative governing your decisions. Winners learn to challenge limiting assumptions, replace them with productive questions, and take action. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why you cannot consistently outperform your mindset How negative thoughts can become beliefs, expectations, behaviors, and ultimately results Why winners interpret difficult circumstances differently How to audit and challenge your internal conversation Why taking action can provide evidence against negative thinking Four questions for conducting your own Negative Thinking Audit The Winning Mindset Principle “You cannot consistently outperform your mindset.” The Signature Statement “Every victory begins with the conversation in your mind.” Before you finish this episode, ask yourself: What thoughts are you allowing to influence your actions—and are those thoughts moving you toward victory or keeping you from it? Identify the negative thought. Challenge it. Replace it. Then act. Because winning isn’t something you hope for—it’s something you build and practice, day by day, decision by decision. Live the standard. Lead with purpose. Labor with intentionality. Keep moving forward. Keep raising the standard. And remember…ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS WIN.

The Winning Mindset: Winning the Battle Against Pride
Sometimes the greatest competition against winning isn’t another person, your circumstances, your resources, or even your ability. Sometimes, the greatest competition is within you. And sometimes—it’s pride. In Episode 22 of All I Want to Do Is Win, Derrick Gilbert continues Season 2 of The Winning Mindset™ series by confronting another internal battle that can keep us from winning consistently: the battle against pride. Pride can make protecting our reputation more important than improving our results. It can cause us to defend yesterday’s decisions, resist feedback, reject help, and hold onto approaches that are no longer producing the results we need. But a Winning Mindset asks a different question: What does winning require from me now? Drawing from Nick Saban’s philosophy of continually assessing where you are and what you must do today to improve, Derrick explores why yesterday’s success does not exempt us from today’s improvement—and why sometimes winning requires admitting: What got you here won’t get you there. Through the story of “The Cup That Was Already Full,” Derrick illustrates how pride can leave us asking for new opportunities while refusing new perspectives, asking for growth while defending old habits, and asking for transformation while protecting old assumptions. The lesson is simple but challenging: sometimes the breakthrough isn’t knowing more. Sometimes it’s becoming humble enough to admit that you may need to learn, unlearn, adjust, ask for help—or change. In this episode, you’ll explore: Why protecting your image can create a ceiling on your potential How to move from proving yourself to improving yourself Why admitting you were wrong can be a sign of strength rather than weakness The importance of remaining teachable, coachable, and accountable How to recognize when it’s time to adjust your strategy, leadership style, knowledge, habits, or mindset Why the destination must matter more than your ego Putting It in Perspective Pride says, “If I admit I was wrong, I look weak.” The Winning Mindset says that valuing truth over ego requires strength. Pride says, “If I change my mind, people will think I don’t know what I’m doing.” The Winning Mindset recognizes that changing your position when better information becomes available isn’t inconsistency—it’s growth. Winning isn’t about never being wrong. It’s about being willing to recognize it, own it, learn from it, make the adjustment, and keep moving forward. Raising the Standard The standard is higher: Don’t just be experienced. Be teachable. Don’t just be confident. Be coachable. Don’t just make decisions. Be accountable for their results. Don’t just defend your position. Have the courage to examine it. Don’t just celebrate what got you here. Develop what will take you there. Because the standard isn’t simply what worked before. The standard is what excellence requires now. The Pride Audit Before the episode closes, Derrick challenges listeners to conduct a personal Pride Audit: Where are you becoming defensive instead of curious? What feedback have you dismissed because you didn’t like how it made you feel? Where are you trying to prove that you’re right instead of trying to produce the right result? What do you need to admit, unlearn, change, or release to reach the next level? And perhaps most importantly: What would you do differently today if you cared more about getting better than looking good? The Winning Mindset Principle “Winners choose progress over protecting their image.” The Core Message “Sometimes winning requires admitting that what got you here won’t get you there.” The Key Question “What are you refusing to change because changing would require admitting you were wrong?” The Signature Statement “You can’t protect your pride and pursue your potential at the same time.” Winning requires confidence—but it also requires humility. Be confident enough to lead, humble enough to learn, secure enough to admit when you’re wrong, courageous enough to change, and disciplined enough to keep improving. Because winners don’t need to prove they’re always right. Winners are committed to getting better. That’s The Winning Mindset™. Live the standard. Lead with purpose. Labor with intentionality. Keep moving forward. Keep raising the standard. Keep developing and improving. And remember… ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS WIN.e

The Winning Mindset: Winning the Battle Against Comfort
Comfort feels good. It feels safe. It feels familiar. But what happens when the place that once gave you security becomes the very thing keeping you from growing? In this episode of All I Want To Do Is Win, Derrick G. Gilbert continues The Winning Mindset™ series by confronting another internal opponent to consistent winning: Comfort. The core idea is simple: “Comfort is one of success’s greatest enemies.” There is nothing wrong with enjoying what you have worked for, celebrating progress, resting, or recovering. Rest is part of winning. But there is a significant difference between rest and retreat, contentment and complacency, enjoying a victory and living off a victory. As Derrick puts it: “Comfort is a wonderful place to visit—but a dangerous place to live.” Using the illustration of an eagle leaving the safety of its nest, Derrick explores how the very environments, habits, positions, and seasons that once prepared us can eventually limit us if we refuse to move beyond them. The question becomes: Is the place that once prepared you now preventing you from progressing? In This Episode Derrick explores: Why growth begins where comfort ends How comfort can sometimes be fear dressed in more acceptable clothing How The Winning Mindset™ Standard keeps comfort from determining our performance Why Forward Momentum begins with movement Derrick also challenges the traditional definition of winning. Winning isn't always being number one, receiving the promotion, building the company, making more money, or crossing the finish line first. Sometimes winning simply means continuing to move forward when the odds say you shouldn't. Make It Plain Think about a small crack in a wall. At first, you notice it. Eventually, you learn to live with it. After enough time, you may barely see it anymore. But the crack never disappeared. You simply became comfortable living with it. The same thing can happen in our careers, leadership, businesses, finances, relationships, faith, habits, and lives. We can become comfortable with things we once promised ourselves we would change. That leads to one of the most important questions in this episode: “What have I become comfortable with that is keeping me from growing?” Winning isn't built by waiting until discomfort disappears. Winning is built by moving despite it. The Winning Mindset™ Principle “Growth begins where comfort ends.” The Winning Mindset™ Charge “Have you become comfortable surviving instead of committed to winning?” Winners don't settle simply because something is comfortable. Winners keep learning. Winners keep growing. Winners keep executing. Winners keep adapting. Winners keep raising the standard. Winners keep creating Forward Momentum. And remember: The next victory may require leaving the comfort of the last one. Continue the Winning Mindset journey—one step at a time, one day at a time, and one standard at a time. Live the standard. Lead with purpose. Labor with intentionality. Keep moving forward. Keep raising the standard. Refuse to settle. Because ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS WIN.

The Winning Mindset: Winning the Battle Against Procrastination
“Tomorrow has stolen more dreams than yesterday ever did.” How many times have you said, “I’ll start tomorrow,” “I need more time,” or “I’m waiting for the right moment”? The problem is that tomorrow can become next week, next month, or someday—and eventually, temporary delay can become a permanent pattern. In Episode 20 of All I Want To Do Is Win, Derrick G. Gilbert confronts another internal opponent of a Winning Mindset™: procrastination. Procrastination isn’t always about laziness or a lack of ambition. Sometimes, delay is one of fear’s favorite disguises. We hesitate because we are uncertain. We overthink because we fear making the wrong decision. We wait for perfect conditions because starting means accepting risk. But potential does not guarantee progress. Opportunity does not guarantee results. Vision does not guarantee victory. At some point, potential must become action. Through the story of two seeds—one that chooses to grow despite uncertainty and another that waits for safer conditions—Derrick explores why winners cannot allow uncertainty to determine their outcomes. A Winning Mindset doesn’t require knowing every step before moving. It requires the willingness to take the next step. In This Episode, You’ll Discover: How waiting for perfect conditions can quietly cost you opportunities Why action creates momentum while waiting creates regret How procrastination can interfere with the seven foundational Winning Mindset™ principles Why the task you avoid often becomes heavier—not lighter—with time Why the first win may simply be defeating the delay Derrick also challenges us to redefine what a win looks like. Sometimes winning isn't a dramatic breakthrough. Sometimes the win is sending the email. Completing the application. Writing the first page. Making the call. Having the difficult conversation. Or simply beginning something you've postponed for far too long. Win the moment. Win the decision. Win the next action. Then build on that victory. The Procrastination Audit Before moving on, challenge yourself with five questions: What important action have I been delaying? What fear, discomfort, or uncertainty is behind that delay? What has procrastination already cost me? What could continued delay cost me over the next year? What meaningful action can I complete within the next 24 hours? Don't just think about it. Write it down. Put it on your calendar. Create accountability. Then execute. The Winning Mindset™ Principle “Action creates momentum; waiting creates regret.” And remember: “Done beats delayed. Progress beats perfection.” A Winning Mindset™ isn't demonstrated by what you intend to do someday. It's demonstrated by what you're willing to do next. So stop giving tomorrow responsibility for what you can begin today. Make the call. Send the email. Write the page. Submit the application. Launch the idea. Have the conversation. Take the step. Stop waiting for the winning moment. Create it. Stop thinking about the next move. Make it. Stop negotiating with the commitment. Honor it. Win the moment. Build the momentum. Raise the standard. Execute the vision. And go win.

The Winning Mindset: Winning the Battle Against Excuses
“Every excuse costs you a victory.” Sometimes the greatest competition against a Winning Mindset isn’t another person, your circumstances, or the obstacles in front of you. Sometimes, the greatest competition is within. In this episode of All I Want To Do Is Win, Derrick G. Gilbert challenges us to confront one of the most common barriers to progress: excuses. Drawing from a maxim he learned during his college years—“Excuses are tools of the incompetent which build monuments of nothingness and bridges that lead to nowhere”—Derrick challenges us to examine what our excuses are actually building in our lives, careers, businesses, and leadership. Because excuses may explain why you haven’t moved, but they won’t move you. They may justify why you didn’t execute, but they won’t produce results. And they may make you comfortable with where you are, but they cannot take you where you are capable of going. And while excuses often protect our comfort, accountability creates progress. In this episode, you’ll discover: The difference between an explanation and an excuse Why comfort and winning are not always compatible How excuses undermine Direction, Execution, and Results Why accountability is about owning your next move, not accepting blame for everything How to move from excuses → ownership → action → progress → results The three-question Winning Mindset Excuse Audit The Winning Mindset Excuse Audit Before you move on, challenge yourself with three questions: What excuse am I repeating? What victory is this excuse costing me? What is my next winning move? Don’t wait for someday. Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Don’t wait until everybody supports you. Identify the excuse. Own your next move. Take action. Create momentum. Go get the win. The Winning Mindset Principle Every excuse delays the life you’re capable of living. Your circumstances may explain where you are, but they don’t have to determine where you finish. Stop building bridges that lead nowhere. Stop protecting the comfort that is keeping you from your potential. Stop giving tomorrow responsibility for something you can begin today. Excuses protect comfort. Accountability creates progress. Remember: Every excuse delays the life you’re capable of living. And never forget: Every excuse costs you a victory. Identify the excuse. Challenge it. Replace it with ownership. Turn ownership into action. Turn action into progress. Turn progress into momentum. And turn momentum into results. That’s how winners move. That’s how winners grow. That’s how winners overcome. And that’s how winners win.
