The gift of being seen - Lenna’s story of Strength
In this episode of Another Bloody Podcast, Share the Dignity Founder, Rochelle Courtenay, sits down with Lenna, a mum of three and It’s in the Bag recipient whose story is a powerful reminder that support can mean so much more than the essentials inside a bag. Over the past few years, Lenna has navigated breast cancer, major surgery, medical menopause and chronic pain, all while continuing to care for her family. During one particularly difficult period, she was also caring for two of her nieces after her sister fled domestic violence, with five girls living under one roof. Keeping everyone stocked with essential items while navigating her own health challenges became an immense challenge. When Lenna received an It’s in the Bag donation for herself and the girls, it helped take some of the pressure off and gave them something to call their own. For Lenna, the bag was about more than period products, toiletries and little extras. It was a reminder that someone cared, at a time when she was carrying a lot herself. Lenna also opens up about the realities of life after cancer treatment, navigating medical menopause without the usual treatment options, learning to accept help and finding strength in being vulnerable. Join us for this month’s episode of Another Bloody Podcast to hear Lenna share her story of health, motherhood, resilience and the unexpected impact of being reminded that you are seen, cared for and not alone. When dignity comes in a bag - Rose-maree’s story from homelessness to hope
In this episode of Another Bloody Podcast, Share the Dignity Founder, Rochelle Courtenay, sits down with Rose-maree, a proud First Nations woman and It’s in the Bag recipient whose story is a powerful reminder of what dignity can mean when you’re experiencing homelessness. In her late 60s, Rose-maree found herself sleeping in her car, couch surfing and staying in unsafe accommodation, never knowing where she would sleep next. During this uncertain time, she connected with a community organisation where she was given an It’s in the Bag filled with everyday essentials. For Rose-maree, the bag provided more than shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush. It gave her comfort, helped her feel cared for, and reminded her that she hadn’t been forgotten. The handwritten note from a seven-year-old girl was particularly meaningful, staying with Rose-maree through some of her lowest days and reminding her of the kindness of strangers. Rose-maree’s story takes us from homelessness to finding community, dignity and eventually a safe place to call home. Join us for this month’s episode of Another Bloody Podcast to hear Rose-maree share her story of resilience, kindness and hope, and discover how one bag can mean so much more than the essentials inside it.
