Around The Cracker Barrel - “Genealogy: A Family Detective Story and Treasure Hunt” with Pat Edwards (Aired 10/02/2026)

This week on Around the Cracker Barrel, Guy Atchley welcomes Pat Edwards, Director of Education for the Southern Arizona Genealogical Society, for a fascinating look at discovering the stories hidden in our family histories. Pat explains why genealogy can feel like both a detective story and a treasure hunt, as researchers use census records, newspapers, church records, immigration documents and even DNA to track down ancestors and understand how they lived. Guy and Pat share stories from their own family research, including relatives who crossed the country, survived difficult times and, in some cases, left behind mysteries that still haven't been solved. The conversation also explores how artificial intelligence is becoming another useful tool for genealogists. Pat shares ways AI can help organize research, compare documents and suggest new avenues to explore—while stressing the importance of checking the information it provides. Plus, learn about the Southern Arizona Genealogical Society’s meetings, special interest groups, educational opportunities and Genealogy Library located at La Posada in Green Valley.
