Asian American Parenting

In part three of the series “What Parenting Does to Parents,” Monica and Danny talk about life before becoming parents and the impact parenting teenagers can have on the life and marriage of parents now. They discuss healthy and unhealthy ways of parenting, which can impact life and marriage positively or adversely. Finally, they discuss ways of reclaiming healthy parenting and marriage.

In part two of this new series, “What Parenting Does to Parents,” Monica and Danny talk about parenting teenagers when your teenager calls you out or talks back to you. This phenomenon contrasts Asian parents’ generation, where children rarely or never talked back, with the world teenagers live in today. Talking back or calling out parents might be the new normal, and so how parents of teenagers respond to it is important.

In this new series from the Asian American Parenting Podcast, we explore issues of raising teenagers from the parents’ perspective and the impact that issues of parenting has on them. This first episode explores co-parenting teenagers and when parents have disagreements in raising teenagers.

In the fifth and final episode of this series on adolescent research, Scripture, and Asian American parenting, Danny and Monica discuss the research regarding teenagers “stacking” negative behaviors and lifestyle choices, which could lead to issues with depression and anxiety. They discuss alternatively both the biblical and lifestyle choices that parents can guide and promote in their teenagers.

In part four of this series on adolescent research, scripture, and Asian American parenting, Danny and Monica look at recent research regarding the mental health of parents and how it can positively or adversely impact the lives of their teenagers. They discuss how the prior generation of immigrant parents may have had an impact on parents today, as well as other facets that impact the mental and spiritual health of parents. They conclude their discussion by considering ways parents might grow in their mental and spiritual health, for the sake of their teenagers.
