Joseph and Mary Present Baby Jesus at the Temple

Send us Fan Mail Joseph and Mary obeyed the Law of God and took baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem, where they offered a sacrifice for him. Simeon and Anna were two people who recognised that Jesus was the promised Saviour. Bible verses used in this episode: Luke 2:22-40 Outline: Mary and Joseph present baby Jesus at the temple. (Luke 2:22-24) Simeon blesses Jesus and his parents. (Luke 2:25-35) Anna sees Jesus. (Luke 2:36-38) Joseph and Mary take Jesus back to Nazareth.  Tips for teaching children: Younger children can play with dolls and care for them. Guide older children in writing words of encouragement to parents of young children. Pray for the parents of children at church. Tips for teaching adults: Read the text of Luke 2:22-38.  Choose two class members to read verses 22-35. One should read the narrator’s part and the other Simeon’s part.  Ask a 3rd female reader to read verses 36-38. Finally, one final person should read verses 39-40. After the reading, ask the class members to discuss:How does the text describe Simeon and Anna's devout character?  What makes them devout? Ask the class members to consider people in their church.Who are the devout Simeons in your congregation?   Who are the devout Annas in your congregation?   What makes them devout?   Pray for them and thank God for these people, and then write a note of encouragement to each.
