357: Shots Fired at Cops, Child Rescue, Musashi, & Training Mindset w/ Sgt. Dave Lind

NOV 2, 202649 MIN

Description

Eric welcomes back Sergeant Dave Lind for a conversation about Musashi, self-mastery, and what it means to lead under pressure. The episode connects ancient mindset principles to real-world policing, including a mutual aid hostage rescue incident they worked on together - that tested judgment, teamwork, conviction, and focus. We discuss how Dave’s personal “way” spans fitness, training, studying, peer support, and family life, and how those disciplines shape his leadership on the street and at home. - David Lind is a Sergeant with the Auburn Police Department in Washington State, where he serves as a SWAT Team Leader and supervisor. Throughout his law enforcement career, David has developed a passion for leadership, tactical proficiency, and the cultivation of mental resilience.  His experiences include leading high-risk operations, navigating life-or-death encounters, and mentoring the next generation of law enforcement professionals. His leadership philosophy emphasizes personal accountability, leading by example, and the belief that those entrusted with leading others must first learn to lead themselves. Outside of law enforcement, David is the creator of Meditation Through Misery, a personal philosophy and platform dedicated to self-discovery through voluntary hardship. Drawing inspiration from Stoicism, the teachings of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and the warrior ethos, David deliberately pursues difficult physical and mental challenges as opportunities for introspection and personal growth.  Through endurance events, disciplined physical training, and written meditations, he explores the relationship between hardship, discipline, and self-mastery. At the center of his philosophy is a simple conviction: The person you wish to become is forged through the difficult things you willingly choose to endure. Questions, topic ideas and feedback?
