John's Gospel records Jesus using the Greek word paraclete four times, translated into English differently depending on the Bible version, e.g. Advocate, Helper, Comforter, Intercessor, Counsellor, Strengthener. Perhaps the best word for our experience of the Holy Spirit is Friend, and we better understand the other translations when seen through the lens of a close friend. We learn that the Holy Spirit is "another friend", the same as Jesus; that he is our "forever friend" - always with us; and that he is our closest friend - so close he is even within us.
