Comedy Corner

In 1982, a comedian and a wrestler created the most convincing staged rivalry in entertainment history—so convincing that even David Letterman didn't know what was real. We dissect how Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler pulled off the ultimate long-con, fooling audiences for decades and rewriting the rules of what comedy could be.

Not every comedy masterpiece was an instant hit. We're counting down seven legendary stand-up albums that couldn't give away tickets when they were released—from Andy Kaufman's experimental nightmare to Richard Jeni's forgotten genius. These records lost money, baffled audiences, and somehow changed comedy forever.

In 1986, Joan Rivers was Johnny Carson's permanent guest host and heir apparent to The Tonight Show throne. Then she secretly signed a deal with Fox to compete against him directly—and Carson never spoke to her again. We unpack the phone call that ended a friendship, the network politics that destroyed careers, and why Johnny took this betrayal harder than any other in his legendary run.

Two comedy legends, two different paths, one explosive decade. While George Carlin was dissecting language and questioning authority with cerebral precision, Richard Pryor was baring his soul and smashing racial taboos with raw vulnerability. We explore how these titans simultaneously revolutionized stand-up from opposite sides of the stage.

Every comedy icon has eaten it onstage spectacularly. We're counting down five painful bombing stories from household names like Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, and Chris Rock that almost made them quit comedy for good—but instead became the fuel for their greatest success.
