🇺🇸 WHY CONGRESS WON’T PASS WHAT MOST AMERICANS WANT | TECH TUESDAY
Americans agree on more than Washington wants us to believe. So why does Congress keep burying bills that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents overwhelmingly support?
Voters want Congress to stop trading stocks. They want to stop changing the clocks twice a year. They want lower costs, accountability, and results. Yet Washington keeps delivering procedural delays, political commercials, and excuses.
What if gridlock isn't a malfunction? What if keeping popular problems unsolved is exactly what rewards politicians?
In this episode of Common Sense with Chad Law, we follow the votes, the lobbying money, and the legislative graveyard. From the Sunshine Protection Act to congressional stock-trading bans, Chad explains how committee bottlenecks, poison-pill amendments, and campaign incentives can stop broadly supported reforms.
And there's a solution: a Congressional Consensus Tool that would let verified citizens express their priorities, track national agreement, and see whether Congress delivers. Chad makes the case for expanding the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to measure the gap between what Americans demand and what lawmakers actually do.
When a clear national consensus meets inaction, his proposed shot clock would require Congress to act: pass the measure, refer it to voters, or return the decision to the states. He also explores the constitutional changes needed to make a citizen-led veto possible.
The gap isn't between left and right. It's between voters and Washington.
