Late for Pickup: Watching Lolli Dance Alone to Debussy (Dispatch 19)

Running late to pick Lolli up from dance rehearsal, Jeff arrives to find the studio empty except for his daughter, dancing alone to Debussy's Rêverie. Instead of going in, he stays outside the plate-glass window and watches. In this episode, Jeff traces those few unguarded minutes: a kid moving like water, and a father reaching for Kabbalah, Alan Watts, and the Japanese art of kintsugi to explain why it felt like watching something broken get put back together. Then she catches his eye, and the dance changes. Flow becomes performance, and Jeff is left with a question every parent eventually meets: what does it cost our kids to dance for someone they want to make proud? This is the 19th episode of Diaries of a Dance Dad, an audio memoir series in Jeff's own words. It spans the full arc of parenthood: the inhale of birth and early chaos, the grind of no sleep and travel with kids, the gut-punches of failure, and the slow exhale of letting go.
