Description
What if changing your life doesn't start with some massive decision?
What if it starts in a tiny moment when something happens...
And instead of reacting the way you always have, you pause long enough to choose something different?
I've been thinking a lot about the power of presence.
We hear "be present" so often that it's almost become cliché.
But intellectually knowing you should be present and actually practicing presence when you're triggered are two very different things.
Because here's what I've realized:
Every reaction is taking you somewhere.
If you continue reacting the same way you've always reacted, chances are your future is going to look a whole lot like your past.
But when you slow down enough to choose a different response?
You change the trajectory.
In this episode, I'm talking about the difference between reacting and responding, how I've watched this change me as a mother, how it's showing up in my relationship with money, and the tiny practice I'm currently using to retrain the way I respond every time my freaking phone dings. 😂
Because the life and business you desire aren't going to happen accidentally.
They are created one intentional response at a time.
Episode Breakdown (15+ minutes) 00:00 – 01:03 — The power of presence and why knowing something intellectually isn't enough
01:03 – 02:09 — Why the present moment is the only place where you can actually create change
02:09 – 03:50 — The path analogy: every response takes you down a different trajectory
03:50 – 04:57 — Reacting vs. responding to a broken dish
04:57 – 06:43 — How I've changed as a mother and learned to respond differently
06:43 – 08:21 — Emotional eating, emotional spending, and unconscious reactions
08:21 – 09:23 — Slowing down enough to ask, What could I do differently next time?
09:23 – 10:34 — The phrase that changed my financial habits: "Don't do what you normally do."
10:34 – 11:43 — Why you only need to work on ONE response at a time
11:43 – 13:26 — My current experiment with phone notifications and anxiety
13:26 – 14:47 — How to coach yourself through a reaction you don't like
14:47 – 15:44 — When reactions are useful—and when presence gives you a better option
Key Takeaways Presence isn't just about appreciating the moment. It's where you gain the ability to choose differently.
Your automatic reactions are often patterns you've practiced for years.
If you continue responding to life exactly as you have in the past, you'll likely continue creating similar outcomes.
You can't change what already happened—but you can decide what happens next.
Emotions deserve to be felt, but they don't always have to lead.
Emotional eating, spending, yelling, shutting down, or catastrophizing can happen before we've consciously chosen anything.
You don't have to change every pattern simultaneously.
Rehearsing a different response makes it easier to choose it the next time the situation appears.
Eventually, the intentional response you've practiced can become your new automatic reaction.
The person you're becoming gets built through tiny decisions made right now.
One of the strongest lines from this episode:
"The life and business that you want will not happen by accident."
Try This: "Don't Do What You Normally Do." I love this because it's ridiculously simple.
When you catch yourself about to enter a familiar pattern, pause and say:
Don't do what you normally do.
Then ask:
How do I want to respond to this?
Who do I want to become?
How would that version of me respond right now?
You don't need to figure out your entire life.
You need to make this response differently.
Then the next one.
Then the next one.
And suddenly you're walking down a different path.
Ready to Go Deeper? This is exactly the kind of work I do with my private clients.
Sometimes you don't need someone to give you more information.
You need someone who can help you slow the situation down, recognize the pattern you're repeating, and ask:
Okay. How would you have WANTED to respond?
Then we practice it.
Refine it.
Rinse and repeat.
Until the intentional response starts becoming who you naturally are.
✨ Your future doesn't change all at once. It changes every time you choose differently in the present.
