EP#43-Week Four Desert High School Football Recap With Shad Powers of the Desert Sun

Send us Fan Mail You can feel it when the desert football season flips from “non-league guesses” to “league play consequences.” We’re at that midpoint now, and we bring in Desert Sun journalist Shad Powers to help us make sense of what’s real and what’s noise across Coachella Valley high school football. We start with Shad’s story and why his coverage leans into opinion, picks, and the kind of details coaches love to post in the locker room. From there, we dig into the big structural shift: the Desert Athletic Conference. We talk about what the DAC realignment changes for the DEL, DVL, and Sun Valley League, why more desert vs desert games matter, and how promotion and relegation could tighten parity over the next few years. If you’ve felt the gap shrinking between the “middle” teams, we explain why that’s happening and what it means for playoff races. Then it’s time for the Week 4 wrap-up and Week 5 preview. We hit the Rancho Mirage vs Desert Hot Springs battle, Yucca Valley’s defense-first win, Desert Christian Academy’s continued dominance, Palm Desert’s momentum, and the teams trying to stabilize before league play. We finish with rivalry energy, including Yucca vs 29 Palms and the Indio vs Coachella Valley Bell Game, where tradition and pressure make the records almost irrelevant.
