Episode 170: FIND! THAT! CHAIR! (Vengeance on Varos)

Live torture! Live executions! Televised experimentation! It’s reality TV gone mad in Vengeance on Varos! Is this one too gruesome, or is its violence and gore used to make a point in a time of Doctor Who that’s been accused of going over-the-top on the violence?   Join us as we repeatedly freak out Diana with impressions of Sil, the Catholic-style worship of video, how a society like that of Varos actually comes to exist and how it correlates to real world fascist regimes, what the punishment dome’s layout actually is, the proper way to democratically agree on ending the life of the state’s leader, and we wonder where the vengeance actually happens in this story. And, OF COURSE, Julie wants to talk about chairs!   If you would like to watch along with us, you can find this entire season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB).
