Dulin Today: Building on Who We Already Are

Description

Before a church can dream about its future, it has to see where it stands today. In this Dulin Weekly Podcast, Pastor James Henry reflects on 15 months as pastor of Dulin United Methodist Church in Falls Church, Virginia. He names two strengths he sees in the congregation: a deep generosity of money and time, and a habit of noticing people, both newcomers and neighbors beyond the church walls. As Dulin's congregational listening sessions near their close, James explains that listening is not a critique of where the church is. It is an invitation to build on strengths already in place, to trust one another, and to trust God at work in and among the congregation. He connects those strengths to the questions members keep raising in their dreams for Dulin. How can generosity build real relationships in the community? How do we follow Jesus beyond Sunday morning? How do we encourage one another to serve when we leave the sanctuary? James also shares practical updates on the listening process and the groundwork already underway. The mission committee has been reactivated. Dulin is partnering with The Falls Church Episcopal to share a joint youth director, with a grant covering half the salary for two years. The search has narrowed from 28 candidates to six finalists. He closes with how to take part before the online questionnaire closes on Monday, October 5, and what members can expect in next week's summary report. This episode is for members, newcomers, and seekers who want to understand Dulin's identity, how a United Methodist congregation practices discernment, and how church listening can turn into action.
