Protagonists Wendle and Boren agree to help the Town of Daggerford by offering to disband a rowdy and unwanted group of travellers camped outside the gates. When they confront this group of “Vistani”, a man named “Stanimir” pleads with them to help lift his people’s curse. Wendle wanting gold, and Boren seeking out good deeds, the party obliges Stanimir and accompanies the Vistani caravan to see the true seer known as Madame Eva who they are told will help them. But they never make it there... Instead they become enveloped in a deep mist that magically transports them to an eerie new land, the land of “Barovia”. Alone and lost, Boren and Wendle try to find the Vistani they were just travelling with to no avail and instead find a corpse holding a letter that pleads for “holy men” to cleanse this land of evil. After being attacked by werewolves, the party arrives at The Village of Barovia, confused and looking for answers.
