Tending the Garden
Good Soil, Good Seed Series "Tending the Garden" Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and tend it. -Genesis 2:15 “Tending to Gardens”: God calls us to steward both our own hearts and the hearts of the children entrusted to our care. Hearts are like soil—able to receive seed and produce fruit. Children, in particular, are good soil: receptive, impressionable, and full of potential. While good seedcan be planted through love, faith, guidance, and healthy influence, harmful seed can also take root through trauma, unhealthy environments, damaging words, media, relationships, and repeated negative patterns. Just as weeds can grow alongside flowers, destructive influences can compete with what is good and life-giving. The message encourages adults—parents, teachers, coaches, relatives, and other trusted leaders—to remain watchful, prayerful, and intentional. Though tending hearts can be difficult and tiring, Galatians 6 reminds believers not to grow weary in doing good. The devotional closes with hope: God can restore damaged soil, bring healing, and give increase when His people faithfully plant, water, guard, and tend the gardens before them.
