Michael Thompson - Zoweh

Details

Zoweh's Exploring More Podcast is an invitation to conversations committed to sharing our discoveries of the wild and wonderful Kingdom of God… how it works, who we are in it, and the Love and Life that is constantly pursuing us. The Kingdom of God isn't easy nor is everything in our story good—there are predators and parasites in the spiritual realm, another kingdom, the kingdom of darkness that exists and violently opposes our discovering and becoming more. Exploring More is hosted by Michael Thompson, produced by Zoweh, and recorded in Durham, NC.

What Are You So Afraid Of | S5E57
What if some of the fears shaping your life aren't fears you were born with—but fears you've learned along the way? In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings begin a new conversation about one of the most powerful forces influencing our lives: fear. Fear has a way of shaping how we see the world, how we relate to others, and how we respond to the circumstances around us. But where does it come from? And how much of what we're afraid of has been learned through our experiences, relationships, and the stories we've come to believe? Michael and SJ explore the difference between the fears we're born with and the fears we acquire along the way. From childhood experiences and family dynamics to cultural influences, media, and painful moments in our stories, they unpack how fear can become a familiar way of navigating life—often without us even realizing it. The conversation also examines the relationship between fear and anxiety. What begins as healthy concern can become something much more consuming when fear takes over. Michael and SJ discuss the importance of looking beyond symptoms to understand what may be happening beneath the surface, while recognizing the value of appropriate treatment, healthy rhythms, and caring for the whole person. But perhaps the most hopeful part of this conversation is the possibility of change. If fear can be learned, can it also be unlearned? Through curiosity, awareness, new experiences, and a willingness to revisit the places where fear first took hold, we can begin to recognize patterns that no longer serve us. What once felt like the only way to survive doesn't have to remain the way we live. As Michael and SJ introduce this new series, they invite listeners to become curious about their own fears, the ways those fears influence their responses, and what it might look like to move toward greater freedom. Because the goal isn't to pretend fear doesn't exist. It's to recognize its influence and discover that fear doesn't have to be the voice directing our lives.

The Deeper Meaning Of Desire | S5E56
What if the things you long for most were never meant to fully satisfy you—but to point you toward the One who can? In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings explore the deeper meaning behind our desires and the beautiful ways God uses creation, relationships, and experiences to awaken something within our hearts. Drawing from the writings of C.S. Lewis, Michael and SJ unpack the idea that the beauty we encounter in this world—whether through music, mountains, the ocean, a meaningful gift, or the feeling of coming home—is often pointing us toward something greater. These experiences stir something deep within us, but they were never intended to be the ultimate destination of our longing. The problem isn't that we desire too much. It's that we often expect created things to satisfy desires that only the Creator can fulfill. Through personal stories and thoughtful conversation, Michael and SJ explore how our longings reveal the deeper needs of the human heart: to be loved, known, safe, provided for, and at home. They revisit Psalm 37:4 and consider what it means to delight ourselves in the Lord—not simply to receive everything we want, but to discover the true desires of our hearts as we grow closer to Him. The conversation ultimately points toward three profound longings woven into the human story: a perfect home, a perfect relationship, and someone who will rescue and provide for us. Each longing finds its deepest fulfillment in God and the larger story He is inviting us into. What if the beauty you've been chasing isn't the destination, but an invitation? What if your deepest desires are actually telling you something about the life you were created to live? Join Michael and SJ as they explore the gift of longing, the danger of misplaced desire, and the freedom of discovering that every good gift can lead us back to the Giver.

Why Men Try To Bury Their Emotions | S5E55
What if your emotions aren't problems to eliminate—but messengers trying to tell you something? In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings continue their real-life conversations by exploring the role emotions play in our relationships, healing, and life with God. For many men, emotional suppression starts early. We're taught—directly or indirectly—to toughen up, push feelings aside, and keep moving. Over time, that can leave us with a limited emotional vocabulary even while an entire world of fear, sadness, disappointment, anxiety, jealousy, and anger is happening beneath the surface. But what if those emotions aren't the enemy? Michael and SJ explore the idea that emotions can act as messengers, offering clues about what's happening within us. Jealousy may reveal a fear of losing connection. Envy may uncover a deeper desire. Anger can point toward feeling violated or powerless. Anxiety may reveal our longing for certainty, safety, protection, or control. Rather than immediately reacting—or condemning ourselves for what we feel—the invitation is to create space between stimulus and response. Pause. Name what's happening. Become curious. Ask what the emotion might be revealing, and then invite God into the conversation. Michael and SJ also revisit the idea of the observation deck: stepping back from an experience to see it more clearly. That perspective can help us revisit moments we missed, understand our reactions, repair relationships, and choose the next time differently. Scripture doesn't present emotion as something foreign to the spiritual life. We see emotion throughout the biblical story and in the life of Jesus Himself. Being wholehearted doesn't require becoming less emotional—it means learning to understand what our emotions are telling us and bringing our whole hearts before God. Your emotions don't have to control you. But they may have something important to tell you. Source Reel: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DZKqw_UmK3U/

Home Sick For Eden | S5E54
Have you ever experienced a moment so good that you wished it could last forever? A family gathering. A beautiful place. A quiet morning. A moment when everything feels right—and then it's gone. In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings continue their real life conversations, reacting to a short teaching about homesickness, Eden, and the deeper story behind our desires. Michael and SJ explore the idea that some of life's sweetest moments carry an "Eden imprint." They awaken something within us—a memory of the goodness humanity was created for and a longing for a home we've never fully experienced. Yet even our best moments eventually fade, reminding us that this world, as it is now, isn't the end of the story. Rather than treating desire as something dangerous or inherently wrong, Michael and SJ invite listeners to become curious about it. What are you really longing for beneath the thing you think you want? Belonging? Validation? Freedom? Intimacy? To be known and loved? Our desires can point toward something deeper—but they can also become attached to temporary substitutes that were never capable of satisfying the heart. The good news is that Jesus came to close the distance between humanity and God. Through Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit, the journey home has already begun. Scripture points toward the day when what was lost in Eden will finally be restored and God will once again dwell fully with His people. Until then, even the ache can become an invitation. Instead of clinging to the moments that fade, we can allow them to turn our hearts toward the One who gave them. Because maybe the homesickness we feel isn't evidence that something is wrong with us. Maybe it's reminding us where we belong.

Real Life Conversations | SE53
What if the way you talk about yourself is keeping you from becoming who God says you already are? In this episode of the Exploring More podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings begin a new series of real-life conversations, using short teaching clips as starting points for deeper discussions about identity, healing, freedom, and life with God. This conversation begins with a teaching from Graham Cooke and a simple but significant distinction: Are you a sinner trying to become a saint—or a beloved son who sometimes sins? Michael and SJ explore how the answer shapes the way we see ourselves, our failures, and even the process of spiritual growth. When sin, shame, or failure becomes our primary identity, the Christian life can quickly become an exhausting exercise in sin management and behavior modification. But when we begin with belovedness, failure no longer gets the final word. The conversation also turns toward the voices we carry with us. Parents, coaches, churches, relationships, and painful experiences can all contribute to the internal dialogue running through our minds. Over time, those messages can become beliefs about who we are: I'm not enough. I always mess things up. I have to perform to be loved. I'll never change. But what if those voices aren't telling the truth? Michael and SJ discuss grace not simply as forgiveness, but as God's empowering presence—inviting us into healing, restoration, sanctification, and a new way of seeing ourselves. This doesn't mean ignoring sin or avoiding responsibility. It means refusing to let failure become identity. The Gospel isn't an invitation to live under constant condemnation. It's an invitation to become more and more of the person God created you to be. You are more than your worst moment. More than the voices from your past. More than the mistakes you've made. You are beloved—and that's where transformation begins.📕 Podcast Archive + Show Notes: https://www.zoweh.org/podcast 🎬 Start The Good Man Series (FREE): https://www.thegoodmanseries.com 📅 Learn more about upcoming Zoweh events: https://www.zoweh.org/events 🤝 Support the mission: https://www.zoweh.org/give
