Charming Temper (Gene Hackman)

Gene Hackman won two Oscars and made more than 80 films, and yet his name rarely comes up in discussion of the greatest actors of all time. Michael Osborne and guest co-host Michael Warburton, a trained actor, think part of the reason is that Hackman might’ve wanted it that way. He avoided interviews and kept his private life to himself. He also got a late start. Gene Hackman was 37 when Bonnie and Clyde made his name, and he kept working for nearly four decades after, through The French Connection, Superman, Hoosiers, Unforgiven and The Royal Tenenbaums. Part of his greatness is his ability to be both despicable and charming. Popeye Doyle is crude and relentless. Little Bill in Unforgiven runs his town with his fists. Hackman had a real temper, when the cameras were turned off, and still he also has a charisma that was almost hard to explain.
