Description
Five Years of Pretending
From No Sperm to Baby 2 Weeks Before 40
Two years after Natalie Fox married her husband, they got some news.
He had zero sperm.
He had survived cancer as a child. His doctors had been reassuring when they started dating. But the test results told a different story.
Natalie’s response? She went the other direction. Completely.
“I don’t want kids,” she told herself. “They’re gross.”
She avoided her pregnant friends. She skipped family events. She pretended the diagnosis had never happened and that the desire she had quietly carried for years simply did not exist.
She kept that up for five years.
Not because she didn’t want a family. Because wanting it, really wanting it, meant facing a situation that felt impossible. The sperm donor conversation with her husband. The money. The treatments. The outcome she couldn’t guarantee.
Easier to say she didn’t want it at all.
Natalie Fox Zero Sperm: The Spiral That Cracked It Open
The Shift Beyond Your Fertility Journey Problem
Then her sister-in-law got married. Fast. And got pregnant.
And Natalie spiraled.
The jealousy she had been managing for five years came rushing up at once, and she recognized it for what it was.
“I was jealous because I was telling myself for so long that this just wasn’t for me,” she says. “But really, I did want it.”
She found the Fearlessly Fertile Podcast. And she listened for a full year before she did anything about it.
Every episode: that’s me. That’s me. That’s me.
And every episode, she talked herself out of making the call.
Money was the reason she gave herself. But Rosanne Austin, who has sat across from women like Natalie for over twelve years, recognized it immediately.
“Now that you’re on the other side of it,” Rosanne told her on the podcast, “you realize it wasn’t about money at all.”
“It was me,” Natalie said. “I’ve been my own worst enemy for five years.”
The Decision That Changed Everything
When Natalie finally pulled the trigger, she did something most women would not do.
She had done two IUIs at her first clinic. She had a miscarriage. She had money saved up for her next round of treatment.
And she used it on mindset work instead.
“The only thing missing is my mindset,” she said. “If I do more treatment, it’s going to fail. I just knew it. I knew I could not do another treatment without doing this program.”
So she enrolled in Rosanne’s program with the money she had been saving for her next IVF cycle.
And everything started to shift.
Within those three months, she switched clinics. She made the call she never could have made before. She trusted herself enough to leave a situation that wasn’t right and move toward one that was.
“I would have never done that before,” she says. “But I was just not feeling it at that clinic.”
Pivoting to IVF in an Afternoon
At her new clinic, the appointment did not go the way she expected.
Too many follicles. The IUI cycle had to stop. The options: cancel everything, or move straight to IVF and start an egg retrieval.
She had hours to decide.
The old Natalie, the one who had spent five years in denial and years in treatment saying “I will never do IVF, it’s too much, too hard, too expensive,” would have panicked. Would have needed weeks to process. Would probably have cancelled.
The new Natalie looked at the situation and said: we’re doing IVF.
She called her husband. “I’m doing this. With or without you.”
He came.
Twenty eggs retrieved. Five embryos frozen. And then, on her first embryo transfer:
Pregnant.
The Declaration
During those three months in the program, Natalie had made a declaration.
“I will be pregnant, or I will be having a baby, before 40.”
She had her daughter two weeks before her 40th birthday.
“The whole thing is just crazy,” she says. And then she catches herself. Because Rosanne had taught her that it wasn’t crazy. It wasn’t luck. It wasn’t “everything aligning.”
“You made the decision,” Rosanne told her. “You made the decision to be better. And that’s exactly what you created.”
Three months after the program, Natalie also signed an LLC and started a business with her sister-in-law. While pregnant.
“Five years ago I would not have believed I would be in this position,” she says.
What She Wants You to Know
Natalie ended her conversation with Rosanne with one message for every woman listening.
“Stand up for yourself. Advocate for yourself. If you’re not feeling it at your clinic, make the call. Switch. If you’re feeling jealousy, look deeper. It’s there for a reason.”
And if you have been listening to this podcast for a year, episode after episode, thinking that’s me, that’s me, that’s me?
“I could have not pulled the trigger,” Natalie says. “I could still be in this whole cycle right now. And I’m just so grateful that I didn’t wait.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can mindset work actually improve IVF success rates?
Growing evidence supports the connection between psychological wellbeing and fertility treatment outcomes. Research published in journals including Fertility and Sterility has found that stress, anxiety, and negative cognitive patterns are associated with reduced IVF success rates, while interventions targeting psychological factors show promise in improving outcomes. Rosanne Austin’s client Natalie represents a pattern Rosanne has observed consistently across twelve-plus years: women who address the mindset component before and during treatment are better equipped to persist, make clear decisions under pressure, and maintain the physiological environment that supports implantation. Natalie got pregnant on her first embryo transfer after completing the Fearlessly Fertile Method.
What should I do if my husband or partner has male factor infertility?
Male factor infertility, including conditions like azoospermia (zero sperm), is addressed through several medical pathways including sperm retrieval procedures, donor sperm, and in some cases surgical intervention. The emotional dimension of male factor infertility is significant for both partners and is often underaddressed. For the female partner, Natalie Fox’s experience is instructive: she recognized early that her own mindset was a critical variable regardless of her husband’s diagnosis, and that working on herself was the prerequisite to any treatment succeeding. Consult with a reproductive endocrinologist and, if helpful, a fertility-specialist counselor to explore both the clinical and psychological dimensions.
Is it worth switching fertility clinics if things aren't going well?
Yes. Second opinions and clinic switches are far more common and accepted in reproductive medicine than many patients realize. Different clinics have different protocols, lab standards, and areas of specialization. If you are not feeling supported, if your protocol has not changed despite repeated setbacks, or if your instinct is telling you something is off, those signals are worth following. Natalie Fox made the call to transfer her records to a new clinic mid-program, and that new clinic identified the clinical situation that led to her IVF cycle and ultimately her first-transfer success.
How common is success on the first IVF transfer?
First embryo transfer success rates vary considerably based on age, embryo quality, uterine factors, and clinic protocols. The national average live birth rate per fresh embryo transfer in the United States is approximately 40-50% for women under 35 and declines with age. However, individual outcomes differ substantially, and Rosanne Austin’s clients consistently report outcomes that outperform their clinical expectations. She attributes this to the mindset preparation that allows women to enter treatment in a physiologically and psychologically optimal state.
