Description
“Do not murder” can feel like the easiest commandment to keep, until Jesus tells the truth about where it actually begins. We take a hard look at Matthew 5:21–22 and why Jesus won’t let us settle for surface-level obedience. If anger is simmering under the hood, if contempt is spilling out in insults, or if bitterness is quietly shaping how you see someone, Jesus says the problem is already serious, even if you never “cross the line” outwardly.
We also connect the dots with James 1:14–15 and the way desire grows into sin and sin matures into death. That framework explains why broken relationships rarely collapse in one dramatic moment. More often, it starts with a small argument we ignore, a petty disagreement we replay, and a frustration we refuse to pull out by the roots. The result is a heart posture that feels justified, but slowly hardens into something destructive.
Then we get practical. We talk about dropping the victim mentality, naming who you’re harboring low-level anger toward, and choosing a different next step: asking the Holy Spirit to kill the seed of anger, praying a blessing over the person who hurt you, and moving toward making it right. If you want Christian discipleship that touches real relationships, not just ideas, press play. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review, what’s one relationship you’re ready to fight for?
