Description
A courtroom scene might be the clearest way to understand the good news: you’re not walking free because God overlooked your file, you’re walking free because the bill was paid. We close out Field Notes with “The Case Is Dismissed,” anchored in 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Paul’s bold question from Romans 8: “Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?” If you’ve ever felt like you’re one bad week away from being disqualified, this one is for you.
We talk about the difference between a lucky technicality and a finished verdict. The judge is not confused about our guilt or our failure to meet the standard of perfection, yet Jesus steps into the courtroom and takes what we deserve. He lives the perfect life we couldn’t live, fulfills the law, bears the wrath of sin on the cross, and trades his righteousness for our brokenness. That “great exchange” is the center of the gospel, and it’s why there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.
Then we get practical, because grace never stays abstract. When we grasp how massive the wiped-clean debt really is, serving others stops being image management and becomes an overflow of gratitude. We offer a clear action step for daily discipleship: reflect on grace, then choose one concrete way to serve your community this week with zero expectation of return.
