Unfair Grace

Description

“It isn’t fair” sounds harmless until you notice how often it shows up right before a fight. We hear that phrase in marriages, friendships, and family tension because we’re wired to measure effort, track who’s right, and demand payback when we feel overlooked. Today we slow down and look at what that reflex does to our hearts and our relationships, and why the gospel offers a better way than scorekeeping.  We anchor the conversation in Ephesians 5:31–32 and the idea that marriage is meant to be a living picture of Christ and the Church. That makes the goal both simple and costly: put your spouse above yourself, treat their needs as more important than your own, and choose a kind of love that resembles Jesus instead of a contract built on “equal returns.” We also revisit Hosea and Gomer, a story that confronts our limits and exposes how quickly we draw the line when love stops feeling deserved.  Then we go straight to the cross, where “fair” finally collapses under the weight of grace. Jesus didn’t get what was fair, yet He offered forgiveness, and that’s the mirror we’re called to hold up in our homes. You’ll also get a concrete action step you can try today: ask where you need to do better, then don’t defend yourself, don’t justify, and just listen.
