Why Does Faith Still Hurt?

Description

Groaning is not a sign you’re failing, it may be proof you’re paying attention. From Romans 8:16–27, we trace a breathtaking thread that runs from your hardest days to God’s promised glory, and we do it through a simple framework you can remember: three groans and one glory. Paul doesn’t minimize suffering, he measures it and then declares something almost unbelievable: the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us.  We talk about why “glory” can feel so hard to picture, yet so necessary to hold onto. Drawing on C.S. Lewis’s “The Weight of Glory,” we explore how the gospel speaks to our deepest longing, not just to see beauty, but to be changed by it. That future is not vague comfort; Scripture points to a transformed creation and redeemed bodies, and that promise is meant to lift our eyes when life presses us into the dirt.  Then we follow Paul’s three groans: creation groaning under futility since the fall, believers groaning as we wait for the redemption of our bodies, and the Holy Spirit groaning in intercession when we don’t even know how to pray. If you feel weak, stuck, or wordless, this passage offers sturdy hope and a clearer way to endure with perseverance.
