Is GOD Your First Response or Your Emergency Contact? 2 Kings 4 Sermon | John Giftah

Is GOD your first response, or is He just your emergency contact when everything falls apart? Kicking off a brand-new sermon series on 2 Kings 4:1–7, John Giftah unpacks a fresh, eye-opening revelation from the story of Elisha and the poor widow. When the widow lost her husband, she didn't run to the prophet immediately. Instead, she tried to handle the crisis alone—selling off possessions, exhausting her strength, and relying on self-sufficiency until all she had left was a single flask of olive oil and creditors threatening to enslave her two sons. In stark contrast, when the Shunammite woman faced tragedy, she ran to the man of GOD immediately. Too often, we push GOD to the corner, thinking, "I can manage this myself," and only seek the LORD when every human option fails. Key Biblical Insights & Real-Life Lessons in this Message: The Trap of Self-Reliance: Why trying to fix problems in your own strength drains your resources and creates avoidable loss. The Widow vs. The Shunammite Woman: Contrasting waiting until you hit rock bottom with seeking the LORD as your immediate first step. John Giftah’s College Setback: How relying on self-effort led to failure in an aerospace engineering elective, but seeking GOD early turned a failing grade into an 80% victory. Mercy for the Remnant: Even if you made mistakes and waited until you had only a "flask of oil" left, GOD’s mercy is still able to multiply what remains and turn your life around through JESUS CHRIST. 🔥 Key Takeaways in this Episode: First Response vs. 911 Call: Shifting from treating GOD like a backup plan to acknowledging Him in every decision. Preserving What You Have: Why seeking godly counsel early prevents seasons of unnecessary loss and grief. Divine Multiplication: Discovering that your small remaining resource is more than enough in the hands of the LORD.
