Description
I didn’t expect a five-minute mirror exercise to hit me this hard. I genuinely thought I was done with shadow work, like I’d already “worked on myself” and moved on. Then I sat down with no phone, no noise, no distractions, and just looked at myself. What I saw wasn’t the version of me I carry around in my head. I looked sad. Miserable, even. And it scared me because it raised a bigger question: when was the last time I truly checked in with myself?
That moment helped me see how easy it is to confuse functioning with being okay. I can monitor the house, the work, the people I love, the endless to-do list, and still miss the most important data point: how I’m actually doing. We talk about the difference between being “okay for everyone else” and doing a real self check-in, plus why noticing your emotional state is a form of shadow work that doesn’t require you to dig up your entire past. Sometimes it’s simply paying attention to the parts of you you’ve been avoiding.
We also dig into midlife as a season of paying attention rather than starting over. You can be tired and still excited about your life. You can be struggling and still love who you’re becoming. If you’ve been feeling like you’re going through the motions, this is your permission slip to pause, breathe, and do a “me check” today, even if nothing gets fixed immediately.
If this resonates, subscribe so you don’t miss what we explore next, share it with a friend who’s been carrying too much, and leave a review with your answer: have you done your me check lately?
