Diminish Anxiety & Find Peace –
Let’s be honest with each other – life can feel pretty crazy sometimes, can't it? Whether it’s worrying about bills, health concerns, family stress, or just looking at the news and wondering where the world is headed, anxiety has a sneaky way of creeping into our everyday lives.
Sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night, and suddenly our mind starts racing. We think:
What if things don't work out?
What if I made the wrong choice?
What if something bad happens?
If you have felt that knot in your stomach recently, I want you to take a deep breath right now. You are in a safe place, and you are not alone. God sees exactly what you are going through, and He doesn't expect you to have it all figured out. Today, we’re going to consider how we can take those heavy burdens off our shoulders and trade our anxiety for God’s peaceful rest.
1. Our FIRST STEP: Talk to God daily and tell Him everything!
The Apostle Paul gives us a simple, powerful roadmap for handling worry. Let’s look at Philippians 4:6–7:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Notice what Paul says first: "Be anxious for nothing." Now, that might sound easier said than done! But God isn't telling us to just snap our fingers and pretend everything is fine. He is giving us an alternative to carrying the heavy weight of life’s burdens ourselves. Instead of thinking about those worries over and over in our minds, He asks us to turn them into prayers. God wants us to turn our troubles over to Him.
Think of it like handing off a heavy box of rocks. When you hold a heavy box for too long, your arms start to shake, and your muscles ache. Anxiety happens when we hold onto our troubles for too long. Prayer is simply setting that box down at Jesus’ feet.
Just talk to Jesus like a close friend. Say, "Lord, I'm scared about this doctor's appointment," or "Father, I don't know how we're going to pay this bill." When we bring our real, honest requests to God—and thank Him for what He’s already done—His peace comes in to guard our hearts like a protective shield.
You Don’t Have to Understand what’s going on to Have God’s Peace.
Let’s look a little closer at Philippians 4:7:
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Notice those three words: "surpasses all understanding." That means God’s peace doesn't operate on human logic.
When life gets chaotic, our natural instinct is to try to make sense of everything. We think, "If I can just figure out why this is happening, or how it’s all going to work out, then I can finally relax." But God’s peace doesn't wait for your life to be neat, quiet, or problem-free. It isn't based on your circumstances or your ability to find the answer to every question.
God’s wisdom goes far beyond our logical thinking and our emotional reactions. You don't have to understand what God is doing behind the scenes to experience His calm right in the middle of the storm. He can handle the chaos that feels overwhelming to you. All you have to do is trust Him.
