Morning Devotional | Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105, KJV "Light for the Next Step" Short Context The psalmist describes God’s Word as a lamp and a light. The image emphasizes guidance: Scripture helps direct the way a person walks. Its value is not merely in being admired, but in illuminating the path before us. Devotional Thought Sometimes the hardest part of moving forward is not knowing where everything will lead. We want the entire route before taking the first step. We want assurance that the decision will work, the conversation will go well, and the effort will produce the result we hope for. Yet a lamp does not need to illuminate the whole landscape to help someone walk. This morning, consider the difference between needing every answer and having enough light for your next faithful choice. There may be much you cannot resolve today. You may not know how a situation will end. But you can still ask what truth requires of you now. Is there a responsibility you need to fulfill? A promise you need to keep? A conversation that calls for honesty and kindness? Not knowing the future does not make those present choices meaningless. Give Scripture room to guide the step directly in front of you. Refuse the temptation to make haste simply because waiting feels uncomfortable. Refuse, too, to use uncertainty as a reason to avoid what you already understand. You do not have to solve the whole journey this morning. Begin by walking carefully in the light you have received. Key Takeaways Focus on the next faithful step. You do not need every future detail to act responsibly today. Let truth guide your choices. Do not allow urgency alone to determine your direction. Separate uncertainty from disobedience. An unknown outcome does not erase a clear responsibility. Walk attentively. Put what you understand into practice. Prayer Heavenly Father, I bring You the questions I cannot yet answer. Quiet my desire to control every outcome, and help me recognize the responsibilities before me. Give me understanding as I read Your Word. Keep me from rushing ahead in fear or standing still when I need to act. Help me take today’s steps with wisdom, patience, and faith. In Jesus’ name, amen. © 2026 Douglas R.
