Scripture — Deuteronomy 13:4 (KJV) “Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.” "Walking Close to God" Context Moses spoke these words to Israel as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. Surrounded by nations with different gods, values, and practices, God’s people needed a clear reminder: their relationship with Him was not to be casual or occasional. They were called to walk with God daily, listen to His voice, obey His commands, serve Him faithfully, and hold tightly to Him alone. Devotional Thought Before the demands of this day begin, God invites you into a closer walk with Him. To “walk after the Lord” means allowing Him to set the direction of your life—not merely asking Him to bless the path you have already chosen. This verse gives us a full picture of devotion: reverence God, keep His Word, listen for His voice, serve Him with your life, and cleave to Him when everything else tries to pull you away. Cleave means to cling, hold fast, and stay close. It is the kind of commitment that does not loosen when circumstances change, when culture shifts, or when following God becomes uncomfortable. Today, ask yourself: Am I walking after God, or am I asking God to walk after me? True peace and spiritual strength come when we follow Him closely, obey Him willingly, and remain near Him intentionally. Key Takeaways Walk after the Lord: Let God lead your decisions, priorities, and direction. Fear Him: Honor God above every other voice, pressure, or influence. Keep His commandments: Show your love for God through obedience. Obey His voice: Stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Serve Him: Use your time, gifts, and influence for God’s purposes. Cleave to Him: Hold fast to God in every season—good, uncertain, or difficult. Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me into a close and faithful walk with You. Teach me to follow Your leading, reverence Your name, and obey Your Word. Quiet every voice that competes for my attention, and make my heart sensitive to Your voice. Help me to serve You with a willing spirit and to cleave to You when life feels uncertain or difficult. Keep me close to You today, and let my life reflect Your love, wisdom, and purpose.
