278. Opportunity knocks once, pt. 2
First, I need to share a story with you: what I thought was my opportunity knocking once. I received a letter in the mail, with a fake address in New York, that stated I'd won the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes for 2 million and a new GMC Yukon Denali SUV; this was the normal gift that PCH/Publishing Clearing House were advertising around that time so I got excited and real happy and I looked at that phone number and I thought let me call these guys well I didn't know that this guy was a scam artist; after I talk with him he said oh in order for me to come out and deliver your funds and your new SUV you need to pay $500 for filing fees so I can get this information filed over to the IRS and DMV in you local state, the authorities requires this so you don't have any problem with your money or the vehicle being transferred to you. I thought ok, what is $500 when I'm getting $2 million. So right away, I sent the guy the money, but then I didn't hear from him anymore. Then I thought wait a minute, he said my new GMC Yukon Denali was going to be here in 3 days. So I called the number he gave me but it had been disconnected, I'm thinking oh no what have I done? So then I got the number to the real PCH Publishers Clearing House and I called them. I explained to them what had happened and who the guy was, I gave them a picture and the address I had where I sent the money. I gave them all his information, they said this guy never worked for them, and that I had been scammed. And they say they will follow up on it. They also told me to contact my local police and the FTC which I did file a claim with the FTC. They told me the way they do their sweepstakes winner deliveries, first of all, they never contact you and ask you for money, but their prize patrol vehicle will come out to your house and surprise you with your winnings. So I lick my wounds and said never again. Lessons learned, life goes on, and that was not my opportunity that knocked once, that was an opportunity to be scam once! Lol. So don't be like me and get over excited because some offer you get that sounds too good to be true, because it probably is not true! That maybe a scam knocking.
