🧳 Long Vacation: 90s Nostalgia with Opposites Attract and Cohabitation Tropes (Spotlight)

💬 Get in Touch! Share your Kdrama origin story. S3 E37 / Jess from the Daebak K-Rambles podcasts joins me to deep dive the beloved classic Japanese drama, Long Vacation. 🏠 We discuss the tropes that make this 1996 drama feel familiar: cohabitation, opposites attract, and age gap—not to mention the slow burn romance and sparky tension between the green flag male lead and the chaotic female lead. 🌀 We detour into why you shouldn’t sleep on older dramas. Then we focus on Long Vacation’s themes of happiness and the frustration of being stuck in a seemingly endless loop. One of our favorite aspects of the drama was how the element of circling around is found in everything from the character dynamics to mirror moments in the story. 📼 And we couldn’t forget the nostalgia the show invokes for the 90s with answering machines, VCRs, and phone booths.  Currently Watching: Long Vacation Band of Brothers The Pacific Come and Hug Me Love Generation  Beach Boys  Links: S1 E7 - Jess from Daebak K-Rambles on Rewatchable Kdramas plus Recs for Every Tastehttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2435348/episodes/16648449 Daebak-Krambles Podcast:https://daebak-krambles.com and Instagram, Facebook, & TikTok: @daebakpod Trivia/Background from: https://baike.baidu.com/en/item/Long%20Vacation/1515939#: Thanks for listening!
