Episode 65 - Colorado Hunting Rights, Elk Hunting and the Future of Conservation with Kurt Belding

The future of hunting depends on what today's hunters do to protect tomorrow's opportunities. Kurt Belding built a life around hunting, but protecting that way of life has become just as important as chasing elk across the mountains. The founder of Western Obsessions TV and Hunt Adventures joins Hunt Fish Freedom to discuss the risks facing hunters, the importance of conservation, and why staying silent is no longer an option. Belding shares how he walked away from a career in business to pursue a life of filming hunts and helping others experience the West. He also explains why his approach to hunting content focuses on the misses, mistakes, and difficult days that rarely make it into traditional hunting shows. His recent DIY Alaska moose hunt is a reminder that success in the field isn't always measured by punching a tag. The conversation gets personal with the story of his daughter's New Mexico elk hunt, where a difficult shot became an opportunity to teach perseverance, accountability, and the value of mentorship. For Belding, those lessons connect directly to the future of hunting and the experiences he hopes to share with his grandchildren. The discussion turns to Colorado's hunting policy battles, wolf reintroduction, Amendment 83, and why wildlife management should be guided by science rather than emotion. Belding challenges hunters to get involved, speak up for public lands and wildlife conservation, and recognize that threats to hunting in one state can eventually affect opportunities nationwide. Whether you're an experienced elk hunter or introducing the next generation to the outdoors, this conversation offers a compelling reminder of what's worth protecting.
