Description
DUNK THE DAMN BALL, WEMBY!
The San Antonio Spurs are 0-2, and Mike Taylor is already running out of patience!
Mike Taylor and Rudy Jay are LIVE with their instant reaction to the Houston Rockets defeating the San Antonio Spurs 114-110 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
The Spurs nearly stole a game Houston controlled for much of the night, but Victor Wembanyama's late shot was blocked by Amen Thompson, leaving Mike and Rudy screaming the same thing: WHY DIDN'T HE DUNK IT?!
And that was just the beginning.
The guys break down Wembanyama's offensive struggles, Alperen Sengun's dominance in the paint, Dylan Harper's impressive fourth quarter, and Mitch Johnson's questionable rotations.
Is the Spurs' three-guard starting lineup already hurting the team? Does San Antonio need another big man? Should De'Aaron Fox come off the bench? And why isn't Terrace Reed getting an opportunity?
Mike is officially concerned. Rudy says everybody needs to calm down.
Welcome to another Spurs postgame show on In the Building, presented by Game Day Men's Health Alamo Ranch!

KEY MOMENTS:
1. WEMBY, DUNK THE BALL!
The biggest moment of the night comes when Victor Wembanyama attempts to finish near the rim against Amen Thompson.
Instead of throwing it down, Wemby goes for a softer finish and gets blocked.
Mike and Rudy lose their minds.
Mike believes a player of Wembanyama's size has to attack the rim aggressively in that situation. Rudy acknowledges Thompson's outstanding defense but agrees that Wemby needed to finish stronger.
2. ALPEREN SENGUN OUTPLAYS WEMBANYAMA
Mike doesn't hold back when comparing the two big men.
Sengun's physicality, footwork, and ability to create offense in the paint are exactly what Mike believes the Spurs are missing.
Rudy points out how Houston can turn to Sengun when the offense gets uncomfortable, allowing the Rockets to settle down and find a quality possession.
Meanwhile, Wembanyama is still trying to establish a dependable post game.
3. DYLAN HARPER NEEDS THE BALL
Dylan Harper provides some of San Antonio's best offensive moments, especially in the fourth quarter.
Mike argues Harper should be getting closer to 20 shots a game, or at least more opportunities when the game is on the line.
Rudy believes Harper has the potential to become a top-20 to top-25 player in the NBA.
Both agree the young guard has a special future.
4. MITCH JOHNSON'S THREE-GUARD EXPERIMENT
The biggest ongoing argument of the night centers on Mitch Johnson's starting lineup.
Mike believes starting Fox, Harper, and Castle together is creating problems throughout the roster.
The guys discuss the lack of offensive rhythm, inconsistent rotations, Vassell's defensive responsibilities, and how moving players into unfamiliar roles has disrupted the bench.
Mike even floats the idea of making Fox the Spurs' version of Manu Ginobili off the bench.
Rudy isn't ready to abandon the experiment after two games, but he agrees the rotation has no real flow.
5. WHERE IS TERRACE REED?
Mike and Rudy want to know why Terrace Reed isn't getting an opportunity.
With Houston's physical frontcourt causing problems, they question why Johnson won't give Reed a few possessions to help Luke Kornet.
The conversation also turns to Carter Bryant's limited minutes and whether the coaching staff is doing enough to develop its younger players.
6. RUDY SAYS DON'T PANIC. MIKE IS ALREADY PANICKING.
Rudy reminds everyone that the Spurs opened against Oklahoma City and Houston, two teams he considers legitimate Western Conference contenders.
He believes the Spurs will figure things out over a long NBA season.
Mike isn't ready to wait around while the team experiments with rotations.
He wants adjustments now, before an 0-2 start becomes something much worse.
7. THE PRESSURE OF BEING THE HUNTED
The guys discuss how expectations change a young basketball team.
Last season, the Spurs could play freely. Now they're dealing with championship expectations, MVP conversations, and opponents treating every matchup like a statement game.
Rudy believes that pressure may be affecting everyone, from Wembanyama to the coaching staff.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
The Spurs showed more fight against Houston than they did against Oklahoma City, but the offense still has major questions.
Mike wants Mitch Johnson to simplify the rotation, establish a clear offensive identity, and put the ball in Dylan Harper's hands when it matters.
Rudy believes the talent is there and the team will improve, but even he admits the coaching decisions are concerning.
San Antonio is 0-2, the Western Conference isn't getting any easier, and the Spurs need to figure things out quickly.
Is Mike overreacting, or is the three-guard experiment already a problem?
Should Wembanyama be more aggressive in the paint?
Does Dylan Harper deserve to become the Spurs' primary late-game scorer?
