Description
Another year, another early playoff loss to a division rival. And, here comes another off season of lame excuses and no accountability. What else is new in Yankee land? Here we go again with the off season excuse and platitude train.
A sweep is bad enough. A sweep that feels predictable is what breaks a fan base.
I'm unpacking the Yankees’ season-ending 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays and the bigger message behind the ALDS: Tampa looks like the more complete team, and the Yankees keep running into the same October wall. I start with the key moments from Game 3, including the sixth-inning swing that put the Rays ahead and the Anthony Volpe replay that turned a would-be homer into a double and left the Yankees chasing runs. It’s a reminder that playoff baseball is ruthless, but it’s also a reminder that great teams don’t need perfection or one ruling to score when it matters.
From there, I zoom out to what fans are really angry about: the growing disconnect between Yankees fans and the front office. If Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman frame another early exit as a “successful season” because of wins, revenue, and a playoff berth, I explain why that mindset guarantees more of the same. I talk roster construction, the strikeout-heavy approach, the lack of consistent contact and situational hitting, and why defense and fundamentals keep showing up as deciding factors in tight games.
I also call out the excuse tour before it even starts: injuries to Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton being hurt again, and the tired claim that the postseason is “a crapshoot.” If you’re tired of platitudes, tired of “run it back,” and tired of watching the same script play out under Aaron Boone, you’ll hear exactly why we think accountability and real changes matter right now, while the Judge and Gerrit Cole window is still open.
