380 - Rutgers hangs on for thrilling 37-30 win in Maryland

We can exhale after that one.  Lots of good, and some bad to discuss after a wild 37-30 Rutgers comeback win in Maryland. A 37-30 win should feel simple, but Rutgers at Maryland turned into the kind of game that leaves you pacing around your living room. I walk through how Rutgers fell behind 23-13 at halftime, then erupted out of the break with a 17-0 third quarter that completely changed the script. For a Rutgers football team searching for traction in the Big Ten, that stretch is the best sign of life we have seen in a while, even with the reality that Maryland is not a top opponent. I also dig into the individual performances that made the comeback possible. Lonergan shook off an ugly early pick and finishes with 291 passing yards and three touchdowns, pushing the ball downfield in a way Rutgers has struggled to do consistently. KJ Duff delivers the moment everyone will remember: a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch along the sideline, plus a full day’s work that screams Sunday potential. And when the run game finally shows up, Clay Thevenin’s no-nonsense, north-south style helps Rutgers control the game, sustain drives, and build a lead that should have ended the drama. Then I get honest about the stuff that nearly ruins it: penalties, a missed field goal, a blocked extra point returned for two, and a defense that gives up a brutal 50 YARD fourth-down screen before allowing two late touchdown drives that almost steal the win. I also vent about conservative coaching choices, the special teams philosophy, and what this win does (and does not) change about the rest of the season, recruiting momentum, and the head coach outlook.  If you care about Rutgers football, Big Ten storylines, and what progress really looks like under pressure, hit play, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a quick review.
