Life's Lessons - With Jamey & Kelly | Be The Church | Week 4

Description

What if the real starting line for spiritual growth is not effort, but identity? We begin with laughs and real life stories, then move into a deep, practical conversation shaped by Exodus 19 and the call to “be the church.” The thread running through everything is simple and challenging: God rescues first, then we respond. When we flip that order, we drift into performance, insecurity, and burnout. We talk about testimony in a way that honors both extremes and the quiet middle. Not everyone has a dramatic turnaround story, and that does not make their faith less meaningful. Sometimes the miracle is decades of steady obedience, and sometimes the miracle is God breaking into a first generation Christian story with unmistakable rescue. Either way, the point is the same: you did not save yourself, and you cannot build a lasting identity on your own willpower. Then we get honest about church leadership and discipleship. We explore what can go wrong when people tie their faith to a personality instead of Jesus, why insecure leaders can quietly encourage dependence, and how healthy mentorship keeps pointing back to Christ. We also wrestle with labels like “spiritual father” and “spiritual mom,” and why those words can help some people while confusing roles for others. Finally, we zoom out to the tangible side of church community: showing up for families in crisis, paying a real price with time and resources, and remembering “backstory” when someone is still learning how to live healed.
