After graduating in 2015 and getting a tryout with the Texans, he commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, completing the Infantry Officer Course and serving as a rifle platoon commander and weapons platoon commander before finishing his active duty as deputy director of 1st Marine Division Schools. All the while, he kept training in his free time. Five years after his last college snap, the Patriots signed him and moved him to tight end, and he went on to play for the Texans.
