What does it actually mean to study the Bible well? It turns out that reading and understanding Scripture is only part of the journey. The real transformation happens when we ask the harder question: how does this change me? Drawing from James 1:22, where the author warns against being hearers of the word only, we are challenged to move beyond simply accumulating biblical knowledge and into genuine, life-altering application. The framework explored here is both practical and deeply personal, organized around three parts of who we are: our head, our heart, and our hands. Head application asks how Scripture reshapes what we know and believe. Heart application, often the most overlooked, digs into our desires and the deeper motivations behind our actions. Hands application brings it all home with tangible, this-week steps we can actually take. Together, these three questions form a complete picture of what it looks like to truly live out God's Word rather than simply admire it from a distance.

What happens when we slow down long enough to actually see what the Bible is saying? In this exploration of Jonah chapter 1, we discover that the ancient story of a runaway prophet has far more texture and depth than we might expect. At the heart of the passage is a stunning reversal: a man of God who refuses to act like one, and a crew of pagan sailors who end up calling out to the God of Israel with genuine fear and devotion. The word 'great' threads itself through the entire chapter like a spine, connecting the great city of Nineveh, the great wind and storm, the great fear that falls on the sailors, and finally the great fish. This is not accidental. The author is painting a portrait of a God whose reach and authority extend over every corner of creation, and whose pursuit of people does not stop simply because someone decides to run. The spiritual lesson here is both humbling and hopeful: God is not limited by our disobedience, and the people we least expect are sometimes the ones who respond to Him most honestly.

What does it actually mean for a church to be obedient to the Great Commission? Not just in theory, but in practice, with real partners, real dollars, and real people going to real places? That is exactly what we dig into in this message. Drawing from Acts 1:8, we explore how Jesus did not just issue a vague call to reach the world. He gave us a specific, ordered strategy: start where you are, move outward, and keep going until the gospel reaches the ends of the earth. We walk through what that looks like for a local congregation, from partnering with a food bank that feeds over 250 families a week, to supporting a church plant in Montgomery, to helping fund Bible translation for a people group that has never had Scripture in their own language. The picture that emerges is one of a church whose influence stretches far beyond its own walls, touching lives it will never directly see. This message challenges us to stop thinking of missions as something that happens somewhere else and start seeing ourselves as active participants in a global movement, whether we ever board a plane or not.

What happens to the mission of the church when everything around it changes? That question sits at the heart of this powerful exploration of the book of Acts. We journey alongside the earliest followers of Jesus, people who faced persecution, displacement, and uncertainty, yet refused to let their circumstances define the boundaries of their obedience. The central passage, Acts 1:8, gives us Jesus' final charge before his ascension: that his followers would receive the Holy Spirit's power and become his witnesses from their own city outward to the ends of the earth. What unfolds across the book of Acts is a living demonstration of what it looks like to hold onto that mission when everything feels like it is falling apart. Stoning, imprisonment, scattering, and even execution could not silence the message. In fact, the more the early church was pressed, the further the gospel spread. The lesson for us is both humbling and electrifying: the mission does not belong to us, and yet we have been personally invited into it. We are challenged to ask ourselves whether our boldness is actually pointed toward the message of Jesus or whether it has been redirected toward causes that, however noble, fall short of the simple call to be his witnesses.

What does it really mean to trust God with everything? Not just in theory, but with our schedules, our possessions, our futures, and even our sense of control? In this exploration of Leviticus 23 through 27, we discover that God was not simply handing ancient Israel a list of religious obligations. He was inviting His people into a lifestyle of radical trust. Through the Sabbath, the yearly festivals, and the extraordinary 50-year Jubilee, God was zooming the camera back on life itself, asking the same question at every level: will you trust me? The Sabbath challenges us to ask whether our busyness is actually a symptom of a deeper spiritual problem, a reluctance to release control and rest in God's faithfulness. The festival calendar calls us to remember what God has already done and to pass those stories on to the next generation. And the Jubilee, perhaps the most demanding of all, asks us to hold everything we have built with open hands. These are not ancient curiosities. They are mirrors held up to our own hearts, revealing where we place our ultimate security and whether we truly believe God is worthy of our trust.
