Episode 103: The Cost of Doing It All with Martine Williams
What happens when you’ve built the successful business, created the life you thought you wanted, and checked all the boxes—but somewhere along the way you lost yourself? In this episode of Lip Service and Lashes, Chelsea sits down with Martine Williams, life alignment coach, keynote speaker, and host of the Life Coaching for Mompreneurs podcast. After nearly two decades of entrepreneurship and leading a multimillion-dollar organization of more than 28,000 women, Martine realized that success doesn’t automatically equal fulfillment. Martine shares the moment that changed everything: while completing a life assessment for a training she was preparing to teach, she came to the section on hobbies and recreation—and realized she couldn’t name a single thing she wanted to do simply because it was fun. She had become so focused on producing, performing, achieving, building a business, and raising a family that she had lost touch with the woman underneath all of those roles. Chelsea and Martine talk about why burnout isn’t always about doing too much—it can also come from doing too little of what actually lights you up. They explore how understanding your natural strengths, protecting your energy, asking for help, and intentionally making space for things that refuel you can completely change the way you approach work and life. They also challenge the idea of perfect “work-life balance.” Instead, Martine encourages women to think about work-life harmony. Like an orchestra, different areas of life will play louder during different seasons. Sometimes your business needs to be the tuba. Sometimes your family does. The goal isn’t an impossible 50/50 split—it’s getting clear about what deserves your attention in the season you’re actually in. And for the moms carrying guilt over everything they think they should be doing, Martine shares a surprisingly simple exercise: ask your kids what actually matters to them. You may discover that many of the expectations you’ve been trying so hard to meet were never important to them in the first place. You don’t have to earn rest, joy, fun, or support. Protect your energy, get clear about what matters in this season, and give yourself permission to build a life that can actually hold everything you’re called to do.What happens when you’ve built the successful business, created the life you thought you wanted, and checked all the boxes—but somewhere along the way, you lost yourself? Episode 101: Energy Is Everything with Rebecca Ahmed
We talk a lot about managing our time—but what about managing our energy? Rebecca Ahmed has built her career around that question. As the former Chief Energy Officer of Caesars Entertainment, an international keynote speaker, and Founder & CEO (Chief Energy Officer) of Energetic Impact, Rebecca has spent more than 15 years in HR and leadership learning what makes people light up, what drains them, and how our energy affects everyone around us. In this conversation, Rebecca takes Chelsea back to the middle of COVID, when she was brought in to help Caesars Entertainment re-energize emerging leaders across its properties during an incredibly uncertain time. Her goal? Help people move out of survival mode and start finding ways to thrive again. But this conversation goes way beyond the workplace. Chelsea and Rebecca get into the pressure so many women put on themselves to do everything, why being “busy” isn’t necessarily something to brag about, and the freedom that comes from finally admitting, “Someone else can do this.” They talk delegation, protecting your energy, being present with the people in front of you, and learning how to empathize without carrying someone else’s emotions around for the rest of the day. Rebecca also opens up about the deeply personal experience that changed the direction of her career and ultimately led her to study Energy Leadership and write *The Energy of Success*. And sometimes, recharging doesn’t need to be complicated. It might be 15 minutes outside, putting down your phone, laughing with someone you love—or, in Chelsea’s case, discovering that laser tag and a demolition derby bring her an unexpected amount of joy. Rebecca compares our energy to a phone battery: you wouldn’t expect your phone to keep working without plugging it in. So why do we expect that from ourselves? This episode is a reminder to pay attention to what lights you up, notice what’s quietly draining you, and give yourself permission to recharge along the way. Episode 99: Quiet, Then Clarity with Anna Russell
How One Retreat Changed Everything for Anna Russell An honest conversation about burnout, courage, community, and what can happen when you say yes to the right opportunity at exactly the right time. When Anna attended Chelsea’s Unapologetic Retreat, she was already feeling burned out and questioning the career path she was on. Although walking into a room of strangers felt intimidating, the small-group retreat gave her something she desperately needed: space to slow down, reflect, feel heard, and reconnect with her own voice. Anna shares how one powerful moment—being invited to speak when she would normally have stayed quiet—helped her realize that her thoughts and ideas deserved to be heard. She left the Unapologetic Retreat with greater clarity and the courage to make a career decision she had already been circling. That decision changed far more than her job. With a shorter commute and the flexibility to work from home two days a week, Anna is more present with her family, more confident at work, and more willing to speak up, ask questions, and pursue new opportunities. Her husband is now able to be a stay-at-home dad, she can have lunch with her children, and their family has found a calmer, more connected daily rhythm. Chelsea and Anna also explore the friendships formed at the retreat, the healing power of being truly seen by other women, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who support your growth instead of asking you to shrink. In This Episode, Chelsea and Anna Discuss: Recognizing when burnout is signaling that something needs to change Why a small-group retreat can create deeper connections than a large conference The pressure of being one of the only women in upper management Finding clarity through quiet time, journaling, and reflection Learning to speak up instead of saving your ideas for later Choosing alignment over the position you thought you wanted How flexibility and work-life balance can transform family life The confidence that comes from trusting your instincts Building meaningful friendships during seasons of change Modeling courage, resilience, and growth for your children Supporting other women without shrinking or competing Key Takeaways: Finding your voice doesn’t always require a dramatic moment—it can begin by speaking up when you normally would have stayed quiet. Burnout may be a sign that you’ve outgrown your current path. The right career move should support your life, not consume it. Quiet and reflection can help you hear what you already know deep down. A supportive community can provide encouragement, accountability, and friendship during major transitions. Choosing what aligns with your priorities can create positive changes throughout your work, family, and home life. Letting your children see you make brave choices teaches them that growth is worth pursuing, even when it feels uncomfortable.
