When two-year-old Macy Grace Ditty was rushed to a North Carolina hospital, her mother said she had gotten sick, choked, and stopped breathing. But the doctors looking at Macy immediately knew something about that explanation didn’t fit. Then, while investigators were still trying to determine what happened during Macy’s final days, a series of emotional memorial photographs went viral online, images created for what the photographer believed was a grieving mother. Years later, those same photographs would look very different.
